Hiking and horseback riding in the deep coulees and on the high bluffs around Big Missouri Cabins offer spectacular views of the rugged countryside of western North Dakota. The fall colors are breathtaking in late September and early October. The crystal clear skies provide fantastic star-gazing as well. The corrals close by Big Missouri Cabins have running water for your horses. We do not provide horses but trail rides are available in McKenzie County.

Lake Sakakawea is home to reel-busting northern pike action and some of the best walleye fishing anywhere in the world. Other recreational activities on the lake include boating, canoeing, water skiing and swimming
